Mobility Management of South Central New York (MMSCNY)

MMSCNY Website with Trip Planning Function

Client Background

The Rural Health Network of South Central New York (RHNSCNY) is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the health and well-being of rural communities. One of its flagship programs, Mobility Management of South Central New York (MMSCNY), operates the GetThere Call Center, a regional hub providing transportation assistance, trip planning, and financial aid for rural residents needing access to healthcare, employment, and essential services.

Client Need

Objectives

MMSCNY sought to create a public-facing website that would:

  • Integrate a transportation service search function and trip-planning tool for the 10-county region.
  • Serve both healthcare professionals and individual users, helping them locate transportation services quickly.
  • Provide comprehensive program information, transportation references, and access to reports, data, and maps.
  • Incorporate ADA accessibility standards, intuitive navigation, and the ability for non-technical staff to manage updates.
  • Two key components defined the scope:
    • Website Design and Build: A full-featured CMS-based website that centralizes all program content, reports, and visual data maps.
    • Searchable Database and Trip Planning Tool:A secure, multi-layered, data-driven system integrated with Google Maps™ and possibly Google Transit™, supporting cross-county trip planning, filtering by payer, origin, destination, and transportation type.

Challenges

Infojini’s proposed approach included:

  • Custom CMS Development: Creation of an easy-to-use content management system enabling MMSCNY staff to manage and update site data, including service directories, reports, and county maps.
  • Searchable Transportation Database: Designed a robust backend structure to handle multiple data categories (Medicaid, volunteer, private providers, managed care, etc.) with filters for trip purpose, insurance type, accessibility needs, and route preferences.
  • Trip Planning Integration: Implemented dynamic mapping tools leveraging Google Maps API to allow users to plan trips, visualize routes, estimate costs, and generate printable itineraries.
  • Accessibility & Multi-Language Support: Ensured full compliance with WCAG 2.0 and Section 508 guidelines; integrated multilingual options to accommodate diverse rural populations.
  • Scalable Infrastructure: Built the system with expansion in mind to support future integration with other regional mobility management platforms.
  • Training & Documentation: Conducted training sessions for MMSCNY’s internal team and provided technical documentation for ongoing updates and data entry.

Our Solution

Results Achieved

  • Improved Regional Accessibility: The website became a centralized information hub for 10 counties, enhancing access to healthcare-related transportation resources.
  • Streamlined Data Management: MMSCNY staff gained autonomy in managing content through the CMS without relying on technical staff or vendors.
  • Enhanced User Experience: Healthcare providers and rural residents could easily search and plan trips, reducing administrative time and improving mobility coordination.
  • Future-Ready Architecture: The platform’s modular design allowed for easy integration of mobile applications and third-party services like 211 Community Resource Guides and Care Compass Network (CCN) systems.
  • Data-Driven Insights: Implementation of analytics tools enabled tracking of visitor behavior, optimizing site performance and identifying regional transportation trends.
